An Ecological Crossroads

Where Botanical Diversity Meets Ancestral Knowledge

Honduras sits at the convergence of North America, South America, and the Caribbean. Cloud forests, tropical lowlands, river corridors, and coastal ecosystems create extraordinary botanical diversity — the foundation of this collection.

The plants that grow in these landscapes have never been treated as commodities. They are integral to cultural identity, daily life, and ancestral practice — stewarded by indigenous and mestizo communities for centuries.

Rooted in Place and Practice

Heritage Rooted in the Landscape

Forestal MT's Traditional Herbs Collection reflects the wisdom of healers, midwives, herbalists, and indigenous knowledge keepers who have stewarded this botanical understanding for centuries. Every herb carries a verifiable connection to its native ecosystem.

By working directly with local harvesters in Olancho and La Mosquitia, we help preserve both botanical diversity and the cultural heritage that has protected it for generations. No anonymous supply chains. No intermediaries. Just the plant, the place, and the people.

Dr. Sebi — Alfredo Darrington Bowman — Honduran herbalist who brought global attention to Central American plant traditions

A Tribute to Dr. Sebi's Legacy

The Herbalist Who Showed the World Honduras

Alfredo Darrington Bowman — known worldwide as Dr. Sebi — was born in Ilanga, La Ceiba, Honduras in 1933. A self-taught herbalist, he devoted his life to the plant wisdom of Central America and the Caribbean, bringing global attention to botanical traditions practiced in these landscapes for centuries.

Many of the plants in this collection — cocolmeca root, contribo, sarsaparilla, stonebreaker, guaco, and more — were central to his teachings. Dr. Sebi didn't invent these traditions. He honored them, as communities in Honduras have honored them for generations. This collection honors that same lineage: wild, uncompromised, rooted in place.

This tribute reflects historical and cultural context only. These products are not medical treatments and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the estate of Alfredo Darrington Bowman.

Gathered From Where They Grow

Where Wild Plants Still Know Their Names

Every plant in this collection is collected in its natural habitat — no farms, no cultivation, no synthetic inputs. Sourced from biodiverse regions aligned with ancestral gathering sites, by people who know these plants by name, season, and place.

Harvest sites are rotated. Root systems are preserved when possible. Only a small portion of any plant population is taken — a practice of restraint that has kept these landscapes productive for generations. This is wildcrafting as it was always meant to be.

Wildcrafted. Not Farmed.

These Plants Grow Wild Because They Were Never Tamed.

No monocultures. No pesticides. No greenhouses. Every plant in this collection grows exactly where it has always grown — in native ecosystems that have shaped its character over centuries. That’s what “wildcrafted” means. And that’s the only way we source.

Origin-Grounded Process

How We Work: Wildcrafted and Shade-Dried

Guarumo leaves being shade-dried in Olancho, Honduras — traditional wildcrafted herb processing
Steps 01 — 03

From Canopy to Drying Bed

Gathered in native habitat, sorted by hand, and laid in single layers on ventilated beds. The slow, indirect process begins — protecting every volatile oil from heat and light.

Step 04

Preserved at the Peak

Once fully dry and brittle, herbs are taken down, cleaned of remaining stems, and stored in airtight containers. Leaves kept whole to protect natural volatile compounds until use.

01

Gathered From Where They Grow

Every plant collected in its natural habitat — no farms, no synthetic inputs. Sourced from biodiverse regions aligned with ancestral gathering sites.

02

Harvested With Care

Handpicked at peak maturity, often in early morning. Only abundant species collected; root systems preserved; harvest sites rotated to maintain ecosystem health.

03

Natural Shade Drying

Hung in bundles or spread on ventilated drying beds. Slow, indirect drying in cool, well-shaded spaces prevents breakdown of volatile oils — preserving aroma, color, and botanical character.

04

Final Processing & Storage

Once fully dry, remaining stems and debris are removed. Stored in airtight containers away from light and moisture. Leaves kept whole to preserve volatile compounds.
